“What is REAL?” asked the Velveteen Rabbit one day… “Does it mean having things that buzz inside you and a stick-out handle?”
“Real isn’t how you are made,” said the Skin Horse. “It’s a thing that happens to you. When [someone] loves you for a long, long time, not just to play with, but REALLY loves you, then you become Real.”
“Does it hurt?” asked the Rabbit.
“Sometimes,” said the Skin Horse, for he was always truthful. “When you are Real you don’t mind being hurt.”
“Does it happen all at once, like being wound up,” he asked, “or bit by bit?”
“It doesn’t happen all at once,” said the Skin Horse. “You become. It takes a long time. That’s why it doesn’t often happen to people who break easily, or have sharp edges, or who have to be carefully kept.
“Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don’t matter at all, because once you are Real you can’t be ugly, except to people who don’t understand… once you are Real you can’t become unreal again. It lasts for always.”
Find out how my FAVORITE comic artist, Steven Weissman, uniquely relates (or doesn’t) to politics in his new collection of comics, Barack Hussein Obama. A delightful departure for our dear friend “Ribs.”
Please keep a lookout for my friend and fan Keener Cagle. I’m just worried about him, because he was an active Puberliever—he posted a few vids re-inacting some awesome Pubes scenes to Pubertina’s Facebook wall—and then totally disappeared off Facebook.
I’m worried because he’s a young teenager, possibly troubled, and I don’t know if he’s safe. I care greatly about my fans, and especially when something seems off.
Please, if you know Keener, just send me a message or a tweet letting me know he’s safe. Keener, if you’re out there, I miss you, think you’re a super cool kid, and hope you’re okay.
Yesterday marked the finale of Pubertina, and so here’s my tribute drawing to the entire past 10 episodes! While this is dedicated to Puberlievers everywhere, it’s especially made for Emily. She has a creative drive that cannot be tamed, and I felt so damn cool when she asked me to come on board and be a part of the Pubes crew. It’s been a crazy half-year on this awesome show, and all the hard work from everyone involved definitely deserves to be celebrated! (CLICK HERE TO GET A HI-REZ PIC!)
